They say power corrupts. It is true for many politicians and more so for the TDP leader, Chandrababu Naidu. While at the heights of power, he became the king of corruption. During his tenure as the chief minister of divided Andhra Pradesh, a lot of corruption charges were made against him. From CAG to many competent agencies, everyone termed Andhra Pradesh as the most corrupt state in the country. Corruption was a one type of betrayal and he committed many types of betrayal.
Chandrababu Naidu not only betrayed the people of Andhra Pradesh, he betrayed his friends, political allies, his ideologies and even became indifferent to the people of the state. Thankfully, all this came to an end in 2019 when his party, Telugu Desam Party saw a huge loss in the election. When you analyze the political career of Chandrababu Naidu, betrayal of so many levels can be seen. No doubt when people mockingly ask “who is 420 in AP” his name come up most of the time.
The stories of betrayal by Chandrababu Naidu will still be remembered by the people of Andhra Pradesh. He is 420 in AP due to his tolerance towards the corruption and his betrayal for gaining more power.
Blinded by Hunger for Power
There is no doubt that Chandrababu Naidu like many other politicians wanted more power. This hunger for more power became his weakness as he allowed himself to make many wrong decisions. And, this same hunger for power let corruption seep into his government. In his quest to gain more power, he betrayed many of allies and made some disastrous political decisions.
While people may be praising him for making Hyderabad for what it is now, the real credit should have gone to AB Bajpai. He was the one that wanted India to be more technologically advanced. He was the one on whose watch India conducted Nuclear testing. But, like always, Chandrababu Naidu took the credit for it. He did the same with the Polavaram Project. It was center and state funded project, which Chandrababu Naidu hogged and lost the funding from the World Bank. The cash-starved state now has few options for funding projects. All these things go on to say that he is power hungry and time and again he has shown what he can do for getting more power. No doubt people has been asking who is 420 in AP and his name pops up every time.
Betraying His Political Allies
When it comes to long-term political allies, Chandrababu Naidu cannot be trusted at all. He has betrayed his political allies so many times that its hard to keep tabs. He had changed sides so many times, that parties find it hard to trust Chandrababu Naidu and his party TDP. He was one of the most prominent member of NDA government during the Bajpai reign. But when the party lost in 2004, Chandrababu Naidu left the party. Then came 2014 and due to Modi’s Popularity, he managed to win the election in the new Andhra Pradesh. Then came the era where Chandrababu Naidu did nothing for the state for 5 years of his power. This time, he had nothing to show for, he couldn’t steal credit from the government and all he managed to do was corruption. This is the reason why he is 420 in AP.
It was evident that people of the state were not happy with his work. He was losing his footing. So, once again he betrayed the NDA and switched to Congress for support. It was the same Congress that had allowed the formation of Telangana and people were not happy about it. The voters punished Congress in 2014 elections. That year the Congress party drew blank in both state and Lok Sabha election from the Andhra Pradesh state. But, Chandrababu Naidu had no regards for the people feelings. He went on to join Congress party that he once hated. His contradictory actions angered people. First, he accused Congress of creating Telangana and wanted to expose them. Then later he joined hands with the same party in Telangana election. The people didn’t like it and they punished him in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh elections. He is 420 in AP.
The story of his betrayal and feeble-minded decisions cost him dearly in 2019 elections. He couldn’t score in Telangana where supported the formation of the state, nor could he win in Andhra Pradesh where he opposed the formation of Telangana. It was clear that Chandrababu Naidu was 420 in AP in many ways.
His Betrayal of The Common People
Betraying the voters was even bigger than betraying the political allies. Time and again, Chandrababu Naidu has shown that he has little regards for the people of Andhra Pradesh. First, he supported Telangana state formation when the Andhra Pradesh was clearly not in favor of it. By showing his disapproval for the formation of the state and then supporting it for election, Chandrababu Naidu betrayed the trust of his own people. Not just that, to hide his failure he started blaming the NDA government for being indifferent to AP. Then he blamed Congress for formation of Telangana, which he later supported himself. The he switched sides for support and promised to build “world-class” capital city in Amravati when people needed something else. People wanted food, better healthcare, better living conditions, and other things. Chandrababu Naidu promised them a la-la land. His detachment from the feeling of common people was the ultimate betray.
Adding to the list of betrayal was the Amravati Land scam. He acquired 33000 acres of land for the creation of new capital city. He bought lands from the framers in and around Amravati. But little did they know that it was a part of a huge scam. Chandrababu Naidu and people associated with him and TDP bought lands around Amravati even before it was announced officially. It was insider trading. The present government disclosed the name of buyers who bought the land before the official announcement and they were all associated with the TDP party. What it means that they bought the lands at throwaway price. After Amravati was announced as the new state capital, the real estate value of the place rose and those who bought the land before the announcement were set to enjoy the benefit at the cost of farmers and poor people. This betrayal towards the people of AP clearly shows that Chandrababu Naidu is 420 in AP.
Who is 420 in AP? The answer is pretty clear that Chandrababu Naidu is 420 in AP. He has betrayed his political allies, people of AP and many others in his quest to gain more power. But, his journey of enjoying political power came to an end when he lots the election in 2019.
