Babu’s Journey – From A Humble Background To The Owner Of A Million Dollar Company
Chandrababu Naidu was born to a humble family in which we were endowed with a two-acre land. Today he is the owner of a million-dollar firm that operates solely under his directives. Without any doubt, Babu’s profits shoot up when the others had to suffer losses. The reason – “who is 420 was in AP” was in power.
A close examination of the Heritage profits would reveal the story!! In 2004-05, the year Babu lost his power, Heritage earned the net profit of Rs.17 Crore. However, from then onwards, the company lost his steam. It announced a reduced profit of Rs.10 Crore in 2005-06. The net profit had further come down to Rs.1.7 Crore in 2007-08. Since then, the company has run into losses. In 2009-10, the company declared Rs.35 Crore net loss.
Finally, the company fortunes revived in 2013. This was because of the understanding between Chandrababu Naidu and the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. Mr. Reddy, who was running a minority government, took the political support of Chandrababu Naidu and, in turn, gave business to Heritage Foods. As a result, the “who is 420 in AP” announced a record Rs.45 crore net profit in 2014-15!
Chandrababu is a politician who always used his political clout to grow his personal fortunes and hence has been named “who is 420 in AP” by the inhabitants of the state. The nine-year rule of Chandrababu Naidu was an embodiment of corruption. He gifted away lands and contracts to his confidants, benamis, and party despite widespread criticism.
Mr. Naidu is known for killing many public sector undertakings and then selling them at throwaway prices for his stooges. The real estate value of these units was quite a lot of times higher than the sold of prices, thus incorporating corruption at all levels.
The Schemes and the Loots
Chandrababu Naidu converted the watershed and work guarantee schemes into the major sources of revenue for his party cadre. During his tenure as an ad-hoc Chief Minister before the 2004 assembly elections, he allocated 800 acres of land of the University of Hyderabad to a company called IMG Bharata, which was a defrauding company. This allocation was later canceled by Dr. Y.S Rajashekhara Reddy’s government.
After Chandrababu decided to build the Hitec City at Madhapur, he had passed on this information to his confidant Murali Mohan, now a TDP MP, before making it public. Murali Mohan bought all the lands that he could around the Madhapur area and developed several estate ventures. Chandrababu Naidu has used the same modus operandi in Amaravati and made several times more money.
In liquor purchases too, the who is 420 in AP made sure he bent the rules to benefit three companies. According to a report of the vigilance department, the state had to bear Rs.600 Crore of loss from 1995 to 2004 because of the policies of Chandrababu Naidu. There was not a single project that was awarded without taking commissions during his first spell.
Some other notable cases are as following:
- Allocation of land in Manikonda for a golf course at no price.
- Gifted 534 acres of land to EMR properties, which later became the epicenter of a huge real estate scam.
- Gifted 17,434 acres of land to industrialists during his tenure, which can translate to Rs.1.60 lakh crore in today’s time.
Public Sector Ruined
To kill a dog, you first need to brand it likea mad dog. Chandrababu Naidu (the real who is 420 in AP) applied the formulae extensively to kill government enterprises of his own. He first bankrupted the publicly held companies of the government and crippled it until it was no longer able to function. He then sold the same at throwaway prices to the private companies or individuals.
Whether it is about publicly held companies or private ones, Chandrababu Naidu made sure that he increased his kitty. The ex-chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has been rightly called “who is 420 in AP” by several political parties along with the citizens of the state.
